Senior Technical Game Designer
The person we’re looking for goes by many names. You might know it under Creative Gameplay Programmer, Game Designer, Creative Coder, Creative Gameplay Engineer, you name it. But that doesn’t really matter because a title is just a title.
What matters is this: We always need creative, playful people who can also code because we live by the principle: show, don’t tell. This stems from a belief that you don’t really know how something works (or if it’ll make your colleagues chuckle) without playing it, so we end up making a lot of prototypes. You’re needed in several different teams, so you might join either one of our live game teams, or join one of our newer, unannounced projects. Wherever you land, the general responsibilities stay the same.
Okay, let’s get more specific. Here’s what you’ll do on a day-to-day
Generate ideas. You’ll always take part in the design side, and you can be as much involved in the overall game design as you wish.
Implement ideas all the way to shipping (mechanics, interacting systems, adventures, quests… Anything that’s goofy and playful). That’s why programming and game engine expertise are non-negotiables.
Solve design problems by trying to find a home for even the oddest or weirdest ideas.
Maintain game quality by fixing bugs, reviewing test videos and documenting findings.
Build gameplay features with a lot of creative freedom. You’ll often prototype things that may end up on the backlog or never make it into a game, so being able to let go and kill your darlings (or put them into cryosleep) is crucial.
Must-haves
You’re proficient in Unity and C#, meaning that you know how to add legs to a car and make it walk.
You’ve been through a full game production cycle before, either shipping your own personal project or working on a published game as part of a team.
You love to build, don’t mind showing your rough first draft, and are brave enough to make all the bad, dad, silly, childish jokes.
You approach other people’s ideas with openness and try to understand the intention before giving feedback or shooting them down prematurely.
Practicalities
We don’t offer relocation support or visa sponsorship for this role.
We work a 37-hour work week, with core hours 10-15, and the freedom to start and finish anywhere between 7 and 18.
We work on-site at our cozy office in central Copenhagen.
No crunch. People over deadlines.
Our working language is English.
We offer
Silly but ambitious projects, and the chance to work on and impact great games that reach millions of players.
A playful and ambitious work environment where experimentation is encouraged.
Friendly and kind colleagues who love making each other laugh as much as making games.
A professional development budget to invest in your growth.
Social activities like Friday bars, hobby nights, board game nights, team events, you name it.
Daily lunch at a local restaurant just a walk across the lakes away, with plant-based options (and soft ice on Thursdays).
Six weeks of vacation (five standard plus one extra on us).
Paid parental leave at full salary for the periods covered by state reimbursement.
Child's first sick day on us, no questions asked.
Pension plan and private health insurance.
Endless amounts of coffee.
