Senior World Designer
Do you get excited by the shape of a whole world: the districts, the landmarks, the routes between them, and the little details that make a place feel lived in? Then you might be exactly who we're looking for.
Triband is the award-winning studio behind the WHAT THE? comedy game series, played by millions worldwide. From our home in central Copenhagen, more than 60 wonderful humans are united by a simple mission: to make everyone laugh.
We're growing! Triband is working on our most ambitious project to date: a new systemic open-world game built around a beloved IP, with our own spin on it. A bold new direction for us! And we're just getting started. Now we're looking for a Senior World Designer to plan, prototype, and build this world. You'll shape the big picture (the areas, how they connect, and how players find their way around) and work hands-on in the engine to bring it to life together with artists, designers, and the rest of your team. If maps and dots and their connections make you happy, you’ll probably like what comes next.
Here's what you'll do day to day
Plan the world and lead its conceptualization, keeping a clear overview and vision for the whole map and for each new area before we start building it
Create distinct spaces, biomes, and sections of the world (grounded in the real world), working closely with the art team to make each one feel unique
Collaborate with artists and your team on environmental storytelling that gives each region its own identity
Design how players navigate the world, using landmarks and the systems behind them
Establish and maintain the world-creation pipeline, workflows, and hierarchy structures
Work with developers on the tools that help build the world, such as traffic networks
Gather needs from across the team and make sure they land in the right places in the world
Build and implement hands-on in the engine like the rest of the team
You're a great match if
You have extensive in-engine experience. We use Unity, so that's preferred, but experience with other engines works too
You've worked as a world or level designer on an open-world game as part of a team, and you know the common pitfalls of open-world design
You have a strong macro-level design approach, balancing ideas and needs from different team members to create spaces that are believable, navigable, and fun
You have experience establishing and maintaining detailed world and content documentation, and you like maps and spreadsheets
A tidy hierarchy makes you happy, and you keep the small details and the big picture in view at the same time
“Let’s try it out” is your favorite way to solve a problem
You iterate on your work and stay open to changing it as the project evolves
Balancing the needs of artists, designers, and programmers is a puzzle you enjoy rather than a chore
Nice to have
You enjoy building moment-to-moment, concrete level design too
You can make people see a space before it exists, through a mood board, a rough walkthrough, or the story of a player’s first hour there
You have an interest in urban planning and/or architecture
You keep up with industry norms in open-world games
You're drawn to casual, family-friendly, quirky universe building and storytelling
You have experience prototyping mini games and activities
What always matters to us at Triband
You thrive in taking ownership of your area: you spot problems, seek advice when needed, and implement creative solutions that push projects forward.
You're motivated by collaboration, mutual respect, inclusiveness, and creativity, and you actively contribute to sustaining that culture.
You believe games are made by teams, not solo rockstars, and that good ideas can come from anyone.
You bring curiosity, generosity, and flexibility, along with strong opinions, especially when they come with reasoning, openness, and a willingness to actually test them.
You're up for experimentation, and at the same time you don't get too precious when the experience tells you you're wrong.
You value a positive work environment and contribute to keeping the studio a fun and supportive place.
